Please noteĀ the kidney care meal plan is not medicine nor a substitute to medicine. It is the right nutrition that supports the medication suggested by your vet.Ā
The right diet is crucial for dogs battling kidney/renal problems. It can help protect kidney functioning, slow down the progression of the disease and the accumulation of toxins.
Our kidney care meal has been developed by a veterinary doctor. It consists of meals which are made from all-natural, fresh ingredients. The diet is low in protein, has reduced sodium and phosphorus levels, and also contains a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids.
NOM Pro Tip
1. Pomegranate juice and Cranberries areĀ excellent for dogs suffering from kidney disease.. For every 200 g of ourĀ Kidney care meal, add 20 ml of fresh pomegranate juice to the meal.Ā
2. Top up withĀ the meal with fresh Cranberries.Ā
Right IngredientsĀ
Chicken, heart, brown rice, carrots, cabbage, broccoli/cauliflower, pumpkin, green beans, peas, turmeric, eggshell powder, flax seeds, coconut oil, omega 3 fish oil.
Low in Protein
Since the kidneys are responsible for filtering out the waste produced as the body metabolizes protein, the first goal of a reduced protein diet is to help lower the amount of waste produced. The second goal is to minimize the amount of protein entering the filtration system of the kidneys. It is important to not only reduce the quality of protein, but also only use lean, high-quality protein.
Low in Phosphorus
As the kidneys begin to fail, the concentration of phosphorus in the blood elevates which in turn is linked to a number of side effects. Normalizing blood phosphorus concentrations through diet may help to slow the progression of the disease.
Low in Sodium
Reducing sodium in the diet of dogs with chronic kidney disease is beneficial as it reduces the load on their kidneys and helps them maintain normal blood pressure.
Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids have shown to help slow the progression of chronic kidney disease by reducing the production of inflammatory compounds that cause oxidative stress to the dog's kidneys.
Treatment for your dog's kidney disease will be based upon the severity of your dogās medical case, age and overall health. In most cases, treatment for kidney disease includes dietary restrictions and medications. Please note that our food is not medicine. It is the right nutrition that supports the medication suggested by your vet.
